Everyday Carry (EDC) Kit

Everyday carry, or EDC, is the small collection of useful items you keep on you or in your bag as you go about daily life. The idea is simple: most problems are minor, and a little preparation means you can deal with them calmly rather than being caught out. A dead phone on the commute, a snapped shoelace, a small cut, a torch needed in a sudden power cut. None of these are disasters, but each is far easier to handle when you already have the right tool to hand rather than hunting for one.

A good EDC kit is compact and honest about how you actually live. There is little point carrying gear you will never reach for, so favour lightweight, genuinely useful items that earn their place in a pocket, handbag, rucksack or car. Think of it as quiet, sensible readiness rather than heavy-duty survival gear. The best kit is the one you keep with you every day, so comfort and convenience matter just as much as capability when you decide what to include.

One important point for UK readers concerns knives. Carrying a fixed-blade knife or a locking folding knife in public without good reason is against the law, and simply calling it EDC is not a defence. A small non-locking folding knife with a blade under three inches is generally legal to carry, but you must still be sensible and lawful. For everyday tasks a multi-tool is usually the smarter, safer choice, so we favour that over any dedicated survival knife.
