Ticks are common across UK grassland and woodland, and some carry Lyme disease. The risk of infection rises the longer a tick stays attached and if it's removed badly — squeezing the body or leaving the mouthparts embedded. A dedicated tick tool slides under the tick and lifts or twists it out whole, which is far safer than fingers, and it's tiny enough to live in any first-aid kit.
It costs almost nothing and takes no space, yet it addresses a genuinely common outdoor hazard properly. Prompt, clean removal is the single most effective thing you can do to reduce the chance of a tick-borne infection.
